No friends, a new school, and a notion that this somehow would not go well. To flashback, I remember moving to the small town of Benicia, CA in the Summer of 1998 from the big city of San Francisco only an hour away, not knowing how things would go, feeling uncertain at the age of twelve. What does 311 mean to their fans that follow them around the country? I will be following the band from Irvine to Seattle, interviewing fans outside and inside the shows, attempting to understand why 311 has moved so many people, and why their message of positivity, love and the power of their music creates what I consider to be the best atmosphere and vibe of any live concert experience out there. I am also here to examine the effect 311 has on their fans, who look forward to 311 coming to town every year and delivering ridiculously awesome shows as they always do. And, because 311 shows are inspiring, motivating, moving, uplifting, exciting and ultra-fun experiences that need to be documented at every level possible. Why? Because I want to give something back to the band that has given me so much. And so it begins, my blog to document my travels as I cover 311’s Summer Unity Tour across 7 West Coast shows (Irvine, San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Reno, Portland and Seattle), spanning approximately 2,700 miles and 4 states.
